AC Milan Primavera completed another spectacular comeback in their game against Genoa on Saturday evening, scoring the winner in the 93rd minute. Head coach Ignazio Abate was understandably very happy after the game.
If there’s one thing we know for sure about the Primavera side this season, it’s that they never give up. We have seen them score several injury-time winners this season and the last outing was no different, with Hugo Cuenca finding the back of the net in the 93rd minute.
It was a crucial goal for Milan, who had lost two consecutive games in the league prior, and they are now just one point behind Inter in first place. After the game, Ignazio Abate spoke to MilanTV (via MilanNews) and shared his thoughts on the turnaround.
On the game…
“We won a very dirty match because Genoa is a very physical team. We were in control of the ball but it was difficult to find openings on a really bad pitch. For the boys, It wasn’t easy.
“The subs were decisive: they came in with a great mentality and brought freshness. I congratulate the guys, it wasn’t easy after two defeats in the league. We’re in the mix with the other teams fighting for the playoffs, I’m proud.
“We have some injured people to recover, as well as some players who have been with the first team. For us, the latter is pride.”
On the players…
“Their unity, their mentality during the week, their ambition. A really healthy group with important values but today I’m happy to have won like this. It was a battle, and we came out victorious,” he stated.
Milan Primavera will face Newcastle next but they have already secured their spot in the UEFA Youth League knockout stage, comfortably in first place in the group. In the competition, they have won four out of five games, currently five points ahead of Dortmund in second place.
