AC Milan 7-0 Lumezzane: Pulisic shines and Colombo bags brace – the highlights

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan started their pre-season with a comfortable 7-0 win against Lumezzane earlier this evening. Christian Pulisic played from start and bagged two assists, while the youngster Lorenzo Colombo bagged two goals.

Stefano Pioli fielded the following starting XI for the game: Sportiello; Calabria, Gabbia, Tomori, Florenzi; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Pobega; Messias, Colombo, Pulisic. And the latter certainly made the most of the opportunity. (See highlights below).

Just five minutes into the game, Pulisic brought down a ball wonderfully before beating his man, setting it up for Tommaso Pobega inside the box. A few minutes before that, the American had hit the post with a nice strike. Shortly thereafter, in the 17th minute, Pulisic received yet another ball and managed to find Pobega again inside the box.

The party continued for the Rossoneri as Junior Messias made it 3-0 less than one minute later. And two minutes after that, Lorenzo Colombo made the most of a poor defensive header to make it 4-0. In short, the game was a bit chaotic at that point.

Things did eventually settle down and the referee blew for half-time in the 30th minute, with the game format being 2×30-min halves. Pioli decided to bring on the new signing Luka Romero for the second half and he responded by assisting Colombo’s second in the 42nd minute.

Pioli then made a range of substitutions around the 45th-minute mark by bringing on the likes of Mirante, Simic, Nsiala, Paloschi, Bartesaghi, Malaspina, Zeroli, Adli, Traore and Longhi. They added a lot of energy to the clash and Romero came close to scoring a goal, sending a strike just wide of the post.

In the 65th minute, Romero managed to get his goal as Milan were awarded a penalty. The Argentine sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and made no mistakes from the spot, making it 6-0.

Right at the death, Kevin Zeroli scored with a header to make it 7-0 and the referee blew for full-time just as the ball hit the back of the net. A positive start to the pre-season but the upcoming opponents will be a lot tougher to face.

  1. Hope Zeroli will get minutes this season, decent backup for right mezalla. Colombo capitalized chances he got. Romero always make himself available but cannot pass his marker. Mixed feeling about RLC. Want to see Pulisic in the right with Leak on the left because he’s cooking tonight on the left.

Overall, 433 seems providing more balance than one sided 4231.

  2. Romero did quite well, but certainly needs more playing time. Just needs to work on finishing a bit. Overall a good outing for new players just gelling into the team.

    1. same for me but people shouldnt get ahead of themselves either as Lumezzane really didnt offer much even though there were a few times we was tested they didnt show much consistency in their passing either. Sportiello had a good save and they also hit the cross bar.
Overall a good match to get a bit better in form and gel a bit more amongst some of the players that will feature in the first team.

          1. Naah, I don’t have anything against you. Unless of course you have been one of the guys always bashing Pobega for no reason then I guess that stab was aimed at you as well. 😀 😀 😀

          2. Oh yes I’m one of those guys I suppose lolololol 🤣🤣💀
I think he’s too slow but for whatever reason has incredible positioning in the final third. But he doesn’t have the pace or dribble to be in the final third. It’s an oxymoron tbh. I probably was the one that called him Slowbega from the start haha 😂 I dont see what the big deal is except for club trained quota

          3. Well… I was one of the guys who said we wouldn’t miss Kessie as we’ve got Pobega, so… 😀 😀 😀

But still… I’m sure he will do well in the 4-3-3 and he seems to have a nose for goals. Even playing scrappy minutes in “wrong” positions last year showed that. Who knows, maybe he’ll be the biggest surprise this season. In a positive way. 😛

    1. I think it must be that he’s slow in computer games where a) the stats are mostly made up and b) speed is the key!

    2. Slowbega is great in the final third for whatever reason..he’s very good at positioning himself there. I would hope he can score against a Serie C side like today because when the Primavera kids came on in the second half even they scored too lol..doesnt mean he isn’t still slow, his goals weren’t pace-based 😂
