Lewis Ferguson is one of Scotland’s most exciting young midfield prospects and he is currently plying his trade at Bologna in Serie A, following a path that is becoming more common with his compatriots.
The 23-year-old has impressed since joining the Rossoblu as he has made 22 appearances this season, scoring four times in the process and establishing himself as a starting central midfielder, an area the Rossoneri need to bolster.
His agent Bill McMurdo went on record last month stating that AC Milan and Juventus are keen on signing Ferguson, insisting that there have been enquiries ahead of the summer.
We contacted McMurdo for a follow-up, and he answered our questions about his client.
How has Lewis found life in Italy so far, and does playing in Serie A suit him?
“Lewis is loving his life in Italy, he is enjoying the life, the culture but mainly the football. He is absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to play in Serie A. He has had to change his style to Italian football and his club has helped enormously in this respect.”
Was choosing Bologna the right club for his development?
“No doubt in his mind that Bologna was the right club for him at the right time. They told him from the start that they would develop him further as a player and they are achieving that promise.”
Is there a player that he idolises, or perhaps one that he reminds you of?
“Lewis respects many players in the English Premier, the Italian Serie A and the Spanish La Liga. He tries to emulate the good points from all these players. This is all part of his learning process.”
Will the upcoming summer transfer window be the right time to take the next step?
“I would be very surprised if Lewis leaves Bologna this summer because he is very happy with his club, the coach and his teammates. However, Bologna will decide when the time is right for him to move on.”
Are AC Milan among the clubs interested in Lewis?
“There is a lot of speculation about two Italian clubs in particular being interested in Lewis along with two English Premier League clubs.”
What kind of price tag do you think he will have?
“Only Bologna can decide when the time is right for Lewis to move from the club and we have complete faith in the management to do what is best for the player and the club.”
