Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that were Thiago Motta to end up as the AC Milan manager in the future, he would take star striker Joshua Zirkzee with him.
As reported by Di Marzio on Sky Sport Italia (via Milan News), there are still reflections at Milan on the future of Stefano Pioli as the head coach, despite the recent upturn in form for the Rossoneri.
If Milan end up finishing third and do not threaten Inter and Juventus at the top, there could still be a lot of discontent around Pioli, even if it seemed things could get a lot worse earlier in the season.
Di Marzio has said that Milan are yet to make any contact with the available Antonio Conte. He has been out of work since his departure from Tottenham, having previously won Serie A with Inter and Juventus.
He thinks that Bologna’s Motta is a much more realistic option for the Rossoneri should they part ways with Pioli, and he could come with a new striker too.
Di Marzio claims that Motta has told Zirkzee that were he to leave Bologna, he would ensure the Dutch striker can make the same move so that they can continue working together.
“Where is Conte going? Milan haven’t contacted him until now. I’m thinking more of a Thiago Motta-type situation, with whom to open a new cycle. With Pioli we’re moving towards the natural end of a cycle… Zirkzee can also arrive with Thiago,” he said.
“Thiago Motta told Zirkzee: ‘If I go away, don’t worry, you’ll come with me’. Obviously I wasn’t present, but these are things that they tell me.”
