The agent of former AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo has blamed the change in management for his clients’ possible move to AC Milan not going through earlier this summer.
Speaking during an interview with Radio Sportiva (via Milan News), Claudio Vigorelli was very honest about his clients’ moves, with the Italian set to sign for Premier League side Aston Villa in the coming days.
Zaniolo was heavily linked with a January move to Milan when he burnt his bridges at Roma, but the club would not put the money on the table halfway through the season.
Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara still wanted to sign him from Galatasaray this summer but after they were dismissed from their roles, the move stalled.
Vigorelli confirmed that the change in management upstairs was the reason for that move going away.
“I think only in Maldini’s Milan there were a few chances. Things were going in the right direction but then everything changed in management and things were not reopened,” he said.
“Nicolo would have been happy to stay in Turkey anyway, he was thinking about the Champions League and he was happy. Then Aston Villa came along and we saw how things went.”
