AC Milan’s Primavera side have been knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the quarter-final stage after throwing a two-goal lead away against Fiorentina and losing 4-2.
The young Rossoneri side were the overwhelming favourites to make it into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia but Ignazio Abate’s side must now focus on the league and the UEFA Youth League instead, which will both be much tougher to win.
Milan are currently second in the Campionato Primavera 1, four points behind Inter. Fiorentina sit down in 15th place, 16 points behind Milan. That is why Milan were expected to be the victors on Wednesday afternoon.
The game seemed to be going to plan for Abate’s side, as Alexander Simmelhack scored an early penalty to make it 1-0. Soon after, Hugo Cuenca made it 2-0 by finishing his own wonderful solo run with a goal.
Milan seemed to be cruising in Tuscany, but Fiorentina rallied and managed to win the game.
