Cardinale ‘very satisfied’ with new stadium project: “San Siro? I don’t think so”

AC Milan have been making great progress in the last few months with their stadium project in San Donato. So much so that the Program Agreement should soon be initiated, and Gerry Cardinale is very happy with the situation.

The technical committee of San Donato has approved Milan’s stadium project for the San Francesco area and the Program Agreement is now the next thing on the agenda. If you want to read more about the whole stadium project, you should check out our Subsack deep-dive.

In his interview with Corriere della Sera, which you can read in full, Cardinale was also asked about the recent stadium developments. He also shared his thoughts on the San Siro project, which now seems to be in the past for Milan.

“I’m very satisfied with the progress we are making, definitely a lot in 18 months, to build the first new stadium in Italy since 2011, with 70,000 seats. Reconsider San Siro? I don’t think so at this point, but every option deserves attention.”

A new stadium will indeed add a lot of extra revenue into Milan’s coffers, which in turn can be used to strengthen the squad and become even more competitive. According to the current plan, the Rossoneri want to inaugurate the stadium for the 2028-2029 season.
