AC Milan have an extra non-EU slot available after today’s news from the FIGC, and it has opened up a number of potential targets.
As Calciomercato.com report, players from the UK now have the same status as EU players which means Ruben Loftus-Cheek no longer takes up one of the two permitted non-EU signing slots for the summer. Samuel Chukwueze will be one, but the other is free.
That opens up tracks that may have been abandoned due to presuming both slots would be filled, such as Mehdi Taremi. The 31-year-old Iranian striker at Porto has a high asking price, but the management do want another striker to complete the attack.
Another midfielder is also sought and Ibrahim Sangare is on the list. The 25-year-old Ivorian from PSV Eindhoven could come back into fashion, especially given that he naturally plays as a deeper-lying player.
Folarin Balogun was the ‘dream’ for the attack but then Milan turned to other targets in other roles, thinking there were not the margins to bring him in. He remains an admired profile but has a high price tag and Inter are also keen.
Carney Chukwuemeka is a player Geoffrey Moncada likes. The Englishman joined Chelsea from Aston Villa last year but struggled for playing time, and therefore new solutions could open up.
Finally, Daichi Kamada was one step away from the Rossoneri but then everything stopped and to date Milan have chosen not to sign him, preferring Chukwueze for the attack. Now a slot is free, so there could be some reflections.
