Olivier Giroud isn’t getting any younger, and with a move to the MLS looking like a real possibility, AC Milan have to start planning their strategy for his successor. As a result, a report has suggested that the club are beginning to evaluate who they would like to add to their frontline in the summer.
In recent weeks, the French striker has murked the waters surrounding his Milan future, given he has been tempted with a move to the MLS, and the club hasn’t made any movement to sort a new deal for him.
Before the January mercato opening, there was a lot of speculation about whether the club would invest in a new striker. However, Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) has revealed that due to Luka Jovic’s return to form, the investment has been postponed until the summer.
There are two names who the Rossoneri have been admired for some time now, who the report suggests they will attempt to pursue.
Firstly is Jonathan David, the Canadian striker has been extensively linked with a move to the Rossoneri, and given he would cost in the region of €40million, there has been a reluctance to act so far. However, a move in the summer could be seen as the perfect time to act – especially with his contract expiring in the summer of 2025.
Then there is Joshua Zirkzee. Thiago Motta’s hottest prospect at Bologna has been another whom the Diavolo have fantasised about. Like David, he would cost in the region of €40m, but, Milan have a card to play – Alexis Saelemaekers – who the Rossoblu are fans of, and the inclusion of the Belgian could sweeten a deal for the Dutchman, who is currently the Rossoneri’s primary target for the summer.
