GdS: Decisive in both phases – Theo Hernandez back to his best in Napoli win

It could be argued that Theo Hernandez had an up and down first half of the season with AC Milan, but his recent performances suggest that he is back to his best levels.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) talks about how ‘the real Theo Hernandez is finally back’. Stefano Pioli and the Milan team can smile, because he has returned to being decisive in the attacking phase and also very attentive in the defensive phase.

He scored a typical goal last night to give the Rossoneri a big home victory against Napoli. With that he moved onto four goals this season (all in the league), i.e. the same haul collected in the whole of last season.

Theo did everything yesterday: defending like a centre-back, controlling the flank like a full-back and scoring a goal after a run and finish that resembled that of a top winger.

In the defensive phase, something he has worked a lot in recent years, the Napoli players have practically never got past him, while on the left flank he has been a constant thorn in the side of the Azzurri.

The Frenchman, who will be Milan’s captain in the next matches given Davide Calabria’s injury, also spoke after the game to reflect on the performance.

“We had a bit of a complicated period but thanks to work we came out of it. Milan in the running for the scudetto? No. We’ll follow our path. Then when the derby arrives we’ll think about it… Now we head to Rennes,” he said.

“The goal? We hadn’t prepared it but we all want to play well and make the fans happy. It’s true that we There were matches in which I wasn’t good but in everyday training I give my best. I like to talk on the pitch. And Leao was also incredible and if he doesn’t score he makes assists.”
