Luka Romero completed a loan move to UD Almeria earlier in the week, and he has explained why he told the AC Milan management that he wanted a January exit.
Romero signed for Milan on a free transfer from Lazio and had a very promising preseason campaign, even scoring a goal against Real Madrid, but he has struggled for minutes since competitive action started.
The Argentine has amassed just 156 minutes on the pitch across all competitions so a loan move became a possibility as soon as the January window opened, with Almeria being the destination of choice.
It was actually reported that Milan pushed Romero more towards LaLiga’s bottom-placed side rather than Boca Juniors because of one key reason, despite the fact the teenager is a boyhood Boca fan.
Romero spoke to Almeria’s official club channels about his decision to return to Spain and why he feels it is the right move for his career, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.
“I go and help out with everything I can when I’m on the pitch and I try to enjoy this experience. I’ve played in teams where there’s pressure, so I’m prepared for whatever happens,” he said.
“I’m happy with my return to Spain. When I played I was still a child in Mallorca. Football in Italy is more difficult and here you play a little more, so I’m grateful for Almería’s offer.
“I asked Milan to leave to get more minutes and feel important. Boca Juniors was something between the clubs. I talked to Almería and it seemed like a good place to continue my career. I can’t wait to play and have fun.”
