The eagerly awaited derby between Inter and Milan will also be Marcus Thuram’s first, but it could have been an entirely different scenario for him.
As Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) writes today, the Derby della Madonnina preserves a thousand stories of a rivalry that has always been going on and as part of this there are a lot of different sub-plots, often relating to the transfer window.
During the summer window when Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada had just taken over as the new management, it seemed as though Thuram would be their first big signing.
However, the negotiations ran into difficulties and then Inter came in with a higher salary offer to swoop the Frenchman. He is young, powerful and capable of covering different roles in the attacking areas of the pitch which meant he seemed to be the perfect profile for the Rossoneri.
However, Beppe Marotta’s blitz and the chance to play in a front two rather than as a centre-forward appealed to the former Borussia Mönchengladbach man, who will now try to score against the red and black rather than for them.
Now, however, comes the next test: the battle with his compatriot Giroud. Thuram will take part in his first Milan derby and, after participating in the mercato one, he wants to be a protagonist again.
