AC Milan were in negotiations with Marcus Thuram for nearly three weeks and did not manage to close his arrival, leaving the door open for Inter.
It seemed yesterday as though Thuram was heading for Milan, as Philipp Hinze of Sky Germany reported that the striker had turned down RB Leipzig and PSG were out of the race too, leaving the Rossoneri with a clear path.
However, Matteo Moretto of Relevo has confirmed that he now seems to be heading for rivals Inter instead in what was a dramatic 24-hour turnaround, and he provided some background on events.
Inter overtook Milan in the race yesterday. The Rossoneri were waiting for Thuram’s response last night and believed they had done everything they could to convince him.
However, Inter’s interest then became an official proposal to the player and thus the decision became one between two projects for the 25-year-old.
Up until noon on Friday Milan were convinced they would close the operation and the player even communicated to friends that the Diavolo were his preference. However, Inter were quick and convincing.
Moretto added in another tweet that the management of Milan negotiated very intensively with Thuram for 20 days without getting the signature.
