AC Milan suffered a disappointing draw against Bologna last night despite taking the lead in the 83rd minute. In addition to the two penalties missed, the defensive performance had a great impact on the result, as highlighted by Andrea Longoni.
Bologna opened the scoring through Joshua Zirkzee, making the most of chaos in Milan’s defence. The second goal conceded, meanwhile, came after a silly foul by Filippo Terracciano. The fact that Bologna were even able to create that chance, however, was not good enough as Stefano Pioli also stated.
In his latest editorial for MilanNews, Andrea Longoni highlighted the defensive woes of the Rossoneri, with the Scudetto-season balance long gone. 25 goals conceded is simply too much, and something needs to change between now and the end of the season.
“Another two points wasted, a great shame given that the victory could have given a small glimpse of a complicated comeback. The two penalties missed certainly had an impact on the result, but in general, the lack of balance was noted once again.
“25 goals conceded [in 222 games] are too many, as much as the balance of the Scudetto season is long gone. A great team cannot have such a punctureable defence. It must be said, however, that the reserves of the reserves are playing. Gabbia is doing well, but not having yet signed a centre-back is a serious fault of the club,” he wrote.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, in that sense, rescued one point for Milan with his impressive brace. The Englishman was named the MOTM in our player ratings and it’s amazing to think that the Rossoneri only paid €15m for his services.
