Fabio Capello has shared his thoughts on what he believes is a very exciting Scudetto race in Serie A this season. He also praised Milan and the ‘hard work’ of their new signings so far.
Milan are sitting at the top of the standings with 21 points out of a possible 24. In short, Stefano Pioli and his men have had a very good start to the season, but the big tests await after the international break (Juve, PSG X2 and Napoli).
Speaking to Corriere della Sera, as cited by Radio Rossonera, the former Milan manager Capello shared his thoughts on the tight race at the top of the standings. He also praised the Rossoneri and their new signings, as well as the leaders.
How much fun is this season?
“It’s a different season compared to the last one, when Napoli and their coach immediately understood what was the right path to take to win. The current season is more balanced: I see Inter in the running, they are the strongest team. Milan are more structured than last year and Juventus, without European cups, can concentrate their efforts on the Scudetto.”
Surprised by Milan at the top? In the summer they added ten additions…
“Pioli can count on the support of leaders like Maignan and Giroud: they can be useful in helping the new arrivals to integrate. I was struck by the new arrivals, who work hard to stand out, sacrificing themselves.”
Is Giroud’s deputy still missing?
“Let’s see if Jovic and Okafor will settle in quickly as the midfielders have done so far. In any case, the wins make us forget everything, the farewell to Maldini, the slip-up in the derby…”
Inter: their own worst enemy?
“Yes, because as has happened in the past, they make the mistake of feeling too strong and underestimating their opponent. I speak from experience, the most difficult aspect when leading a team that is superior to the others, is keeping the players tense.”
As said, Milan have a very tough schedule after the break with Juventus, PSG and Napoli in the space of just seven days. All hands on deck will be needed, in other words, to come away with as many points as possible.
