Charles De Ketelaere is enjoying a resurgence on loan at Atalanta, and AC Milan are watching on with their wallets open ready to potentially receive a nice sum.
As Calciomercato.com recall, De Ketelaere registered two goals and an assist last night as Atalanta beat Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia to book a place in the quarter-finals where they will meet – you guessed it – AC Milan.
The Belgian is now on six goals and five assists across all competitions, but above all he has a goal contribution in four of his last five outings for La Dea which shows that he is fully back from previous physical problems.
Now a return to San Siro is on the cards for the first time since the move, and after the game he sent a warning to his parent club: “It’s always special, but let’s look forward. Against this Atalanta, Milan must be careful.”
What is at stake is not only the metaphorical redemption, but also the option to buy that Atalanta must decide whether or not to exercise at the end of the season to permanently purchase the playmaker.
The deal was structured as follows: a €3m loan fee (already paid) plus €23m for the option to buy and €4m in potential bonuses, which means that the figure could potentially reach €30m and that would guarantee a capital gain for Milan.
The Rossoneri paid €36.5m in total to sign him from Club Brugge but he only lasted a season there. The Bergamo club are increasingly convinced by the idea of signing him outright, with an audition against his employers to come.
I don’t think he’ll be going back to Milan either way. He’s been a bit better this season, but has hardly set the world on fire. €6m would be a very acceptable loss on a big gamble.
Well he might have been fielded in 21 matches but has in fact only played 1222 minutes over all competitions which equals 13.57 full matches and has contributed with 6 goals and 5 assists. A better contribution per minute than any of our current players maybe except for Jovic who has been fielded 15 times and played 576 minutes which equal 6.4 full matches with a contribution of 5 goals and 1 assist.
I dont think he will be back either because Atalanta will buy him and if not already in the summer then in a year or two greatly monetize on that deal.
Thankfully Atalanta will likely buy this bum. Mediocre player. Not fit for Serie A. Has only 2 Serie A goals. Good riddance. I don’t want him any close to Milan.
He has played 888 minutes in serie a which equals to 9.86 full matches and still has contributed with 2 goals and 4 assists so even if things didn’t turn out very well for us he certainly has shown he can be of value in serie a regardless what you or other people might think.
We haven’t got the nice sum. As per usual we miss out on the next windfall. In 18 months you’ll be writing about how Atalanta sell him for 55-60m
Not every player works in every team. Even Patrick Vieira or Davids didn’t make it here. Paquetá now worth a ton of $, etc.
If he works elsewhere and the club doesn’t lose a ton – good for him and a great gamble.
He’s a striker, not a playmaker. His best season was at Brugge when playing in a pair of strikers, he plays in that position in Atalanta as well, so it’s no surprise he’s finally getting some numbers in. No idea why Maldini (and I love him) insisted on getting him so much, given that we never play with two strikers.
Best possible outcome here is that he improves enough to warrant Atalanta’s purchase meaning that we can offset the fee for Scalvini.
CDK is establishing himself as a mid tier quality player. That is what he is at best.
