CM: Sesko, Ribeiro, Veliz and more – Milan consider signing a young striker

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been the most active of any top Serie A club this summer but their work is not yet done as some finishing pieces for the squad are being sought.

According to Calciomercato.com, the main focuses will be a replacement for Fodè Ballo-Tourè as the new deputy to Theo Hernandez, with Riccardo Calafiori of Basel linked.

There could also be the arrival of a right-back too such as Wilfried Singo from Torino given that Junior Messias may head there in an exchange deal, but the big news is that there is the real possibility that another striker will arrive.

The management are studying the potential arrival of another No.9 to join Olivier Giroud and Noah Okafor with the club evaluating some targets, though Lorenzo Colombo could remain too.

Some names have emerged too as being on the list, starting with Santiago Gimenez who scored 18 goals in 37 games with Feyenoord last season, including one against Lazio in the Europa League. However, he would cost €25m.

Hugo Ekitike is also being observed, having been bought by PSG for €28.5m from Stade de Reims. He wants to play more, and the idea of joining the Rossoneri appeals even if things have cooled down in the last few days.

Rodrigo Ribeiro is on the list too, having become the second-youngest debutant in Sporting CP’s history at 16 years, 10 months and 9 days. The 18-year-old is a physical and talented centre-forward, who scored 7 goals in 9 UEFA Youth League games last season.

Then there is Benjamin Sesko, who recently moved from Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig. In Germany he risks finding very little playing time, and that’s why Geoffrey Moncada could try to sit down at the table with the German club to talk about an intriguing solution that can make everyone happy.

Finally Milan have Alejo Veliz on their list. The Argentine talent was a great protagonist at the U20 World Cup, but his non-EU status makes his arrival in this session impossible (unless the rules change regarding British players), but it is a profile that is very popular and the management are eyeing him closely.

  1. Jimenez. Who has an Italian passport I might add. He is not so young he is inexperienced. He can add a lot to our frontline. As far as Sesko didn’t Leipzig just sign him?

  2. Okafor mainly played as a winger for Salzburg. Lazetic isn’t staying at Milan. It’s doubtful he’s even good enough, so we do need another. Giroud is 37.

      1. I’m looking at what he overall played as in his time at Salzburg. Mainly a LW or RW. I did look at his stats. He’s not a pure CF. We’re looking for someone more like Giroud. He’s not like Giroud

  3. Just keep Colombo already. Given who we’ve signed and especially if Luka stays, I think we will end up playing without a number 9 and Giroud will end up being an option when we can’t break teams down and need someone to hit the ball at. Colombo can be cover for that but actually fits into plan A better too.

  4. I really dont see a point in cashing on a young, unproven ST right now. If Okafor works or if Colombo gets his groove there will be no point in buying one at all.
I mean whats the plan? Get a ST, send Colombo on loan and then sell him if he does good?
Now if they were fishing for Goncalo Ramos or someone of that calibre that would be diffrent

  5. All of this is just speculation, things that will never happen. After the arrival of Chuky, the management will focus on getting rid of unnecessary players: Rebic, Origi, Fode, Salaemekers, Messias, Adli, Caldara etc. The most important thing is not necessarily to sell these players, but rather to reduce the unnecessary wage bill at all costs. And when this is done by the end of August or December, Milan’s administration will sign a great striker, or simply Lukaku who is eager to take revenge on Inter. Nobody will see this transfer coming and one fine morning, it will be done in a lightning strike.

  6. Too bad ACM dont have slot for nonEU anymore. Alejo Veliz are young potential striker,he shine on U20 WC , well maybe next season ACM can buy him

  7. Don’t sell Colombo. 2% Italians in our squod. Don’t grumble with young promising unproven babies. Focus on filtering surplus materials from the squod. As we waste time Dominguez will land in Chelsea unknowingly.

  8. I really don’t like some of the names on that list. especially S. Gimenez from Feeyenord, as well as a few others.
I think that now, with Okafor arriving, we ought to be covered in the biggest part, and to give a chance to Colombo. He definitely looks promising, the boy’s hungry (you could see it on his face!), and as I’ve said previously, if a chance appears next summer, we ought to go to Hojlund, as one of very few signings, unlike this summer Mercato! Plus, we’ll see how much he’ll progress in LA Dea shirt the 2nd season as well (unless Man-U truly gets him. But it’s also up to the boy, who, IF HE’S SMART & LISTENS TO REASON & HUS COACH, WILL STAY in Atalanta for at least a season – he’ll progress in it like in no other place, for sure!)
