AC Milan are pleased with the help that Matteo Gabbia has been able to offer since his Villarreal loan was cut short, but the club knows that another defender is needed in January to improve the defensive situation.
As reported by Calciomercato.com, Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada is working hard to identify the best centre-back target to bring in during the January transfer window.
Gabbia has been solid since he returned, starting two games at centre-back, but the very best version of the Italian defender is still not someone who revolutionises the situation.
The primary target at the back is still Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino, but it could take up to €40m to prize him away from the Granata. If Milan cannot sign him this month, a summer move is very possible.
Other names are being linked in January, such as Stade Brest’s Lilian Brassier. He may cost €10-12m, or Milan could look at Sevilla’s Tanguy Nianzou. His injury issues have caused the Diavolo some concern.
Perhaps a better option would be Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, given the Gunners are starting to welcome the idea of a loan more now.
Aston Villa’s Clement Lenglet is also an option, but he is owned by Barcelona and it could prove complicated.
Gabbia hat gute Leistungen gezeigt!
The club are run by idiots. 3 defenders are due to return next month, there’s a week left of the transfer window, what on Earth is the point in blowing money on a 2 week stop-gap?
