The end of the transfer window and the international break has not interrupted the work of the Milan management who are assessing the squad for the future.
As Calciomercato.com point out, there are five players who are currently under contract until the end of the 2023-24 season, namely Luka Jovic, Olivier Giroud, Simon Kjaer, Antonio Mirante and Mattia Caldara.
Going through each player individually, Giroud certainly has the best chance of staying given he has four goals and one assist in the first three league games. The Frenchman is moving towards a renewal for another season and talks with his entourage will gain momentum between January and February.
As far as Jovic is concerned everything will depend on the Serbian striker. Milan have given him an important opportunity in an uninspiring phase of his career, if he does well he will have a good chance of remaining and renewing, otherwise he will leave on a free.
Simon Kjaer deserves a separate discussion. The Danish defender would like to end his career with the Rossoneri by extending his contract for another two seasons, but CEO Giorgio Furlani wants to wait for the responses from the pitch, so the issue will be postponed until nearer the end of the season.
For Antonio Mirante and Mattia Caldara the next few months will be with the Milan shirt. For the former it is a mere issue of age, while the latter has not been considered a part of the plans for years now.
Kjær played the entire match against san marino yesterday and propably will do the same against finland on sunday so hopefully we will benefit from him getting up in gears,
