AC Milan want to reward Mike Maignan with a new deal and a pay rise, but they face a difficult negotiation because of the demands from his entourage, a report claims.
Maignan joined from Lille as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s replacement in the summer of 2021 and he quickly demonstrated his qualities not just through making world-class saves but also with the ball at his feet.
His contract runs until 2026 which means there is no immediate necessity to agree a long-term extension, but the management want to be proactive and find a solution as quickly as possible.
According to Calciomercato.com, there are big clubs around Europe who are interested in the French No.1 including Bayern Munich who are eyeing a long-term heir to Manuel Neuer.
Maignan’s entourage are asking for financial recognition that reflects Maignan’s status as one of the top three in the world in his position, the report adds.
Milan is willing to raise the salary and negotiate a fair figure, without doing anything crazy. They are talking with the former Lille man but the feeling is that the more intense discussions will take place in the Spring.
A report yesterday from La Gazzetta dello Sport stated that Geoffrey Moncada and co. are planning to discuss a new deal with Davide Calabria once the January window shuts too.
