CM: Milan’s interest in Zaniolo retained – the background amid €35m clause

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan remain interested in Nicolo Zaniolo after their failed attempts to land him during the January window, according to a report.

A report on Calciomercato.com cites the words of Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli to Relevo: “He was on Barcelona’s list, I confirm it, they liked him, but for economic reasons it was not a feasible operation.

“In January there were other opportunities – as you know, Milan and Bournemouth – in Italy and in the Premier League. They were looking for him, but Galatasaray’s call was immediately welcomed with great enthusiasm,” he said.

Galatasaray signed him for €16.5m plus €13m in bonuses linked to team sporting performances and personal targets, plus a percentage on the future resale for Roma which varies according to the price at which Zaniolo will eventually be sold.

The Italian forward signed a contract until June 2027 worth €3.5m net per season plus bonuses, and he feels settled in Turkey even if he only just became a starter, scoring three goals in his first seven games there.

Galatasaray lead the Super Lig with 70 points, three more than Fenerbahçe and five more than Besiktas who beat them 3-1 this weekend. In Turkey, winning the league is needed to guarantee Champions League qualification, and without it Zaniolo could leave.

Before leaving for Turkey, Paolo Maldini exchanged a few messages with Zaniolo, thanking him for waiting for Milan byrejecting Bournemouth.

Milan will carefully evaluate whether to pay the €35m release clause in his contract with Galatasaray, while a lot will depend on the Rossoneri’s qualification (or lack of) for the next Champions League.

    1. 35M€ won’t get us a striker better than Giroud. Better invest the money on #10, RW or a midfielder who’s able to break defenses with creative passes.

      1. Atleast better than AC Milan superstar king origoat . Even cheap striker like boniface, elyi wahi, gift urban are far better than king origoat

        1. Well… We already have Colombo who’s far better than Origi and costs nothing (unless Lecce buy him and Milan needs to use the buyback-clause).

      2. It’s funny because Giroud price was around 3M.. so yes 35M€ most def would get a striker better than Giroud. I like the dude, he has been great, is great. But 10-15 goals a season? Yes, Milan can find that for 35M€. Think a bit next time brah

        1. “Brah”, just because Giroud was priced around 3M doesn’t mean the 35M€ strikers can hit the net in Serie A. Just look at the “Liverpool legend”, UCL-winning Origi. Or Andre Silva (who was the last ~35M€ striker) for the club. Higuain was priced at 50M€ back when he was in Milan – couldn’t hit double digits either.

CDK is a striker who cost 35M€. Remind me again, brah, how many goals has he scored?

Yeah. 35M€ guarantees a whole lot of more goal than Giroud. LOL, BS of the day. 😀

          1. neagtive much? you’re giving examples of players that failed. For what?
Dont you want for Milan to buy a 35M€ striker that will score 15+ goals a season?
And really? You’re bringing cdk into this? He was brought as a ST?
Now im thinking your’e the joke… joke of the day

  1. “They were looking for him, but Galatasaray’s call was immediately welcomed with great enthusiasm” 😂😂😂 translation: Gala offered more money 😂😂who is he fooling. The other clubs didn’t want to overpay on a chronically injured player

  2. Zaniolo has ruptured both of his ACL’s. ACL injuries never go away, they do heal but will never be the same. Under the stress of competitive football they will definitely tear again and again. He can enjoy luscious pay in a lesser league in Europe or the Middle East but cannot compete in top leagues no more. Stay away from him.

    1. “Zaniolo has ruptured both of his ACL’s. ACL injuries never go away, they do heal but will never be the same. ”

BS OF THE YEAR! Show me even one study that suggests that or STFU. You clearly have NO IDEA what you’re talking about.

    2. “Under the stress of competitive football they will definitely tear again and again. ”

BS!! If the new transplant integrates normally in practice it will be as strong as the original one.
