CM: Saelemaekers reborn under Motta – latest on his future with €10m at stake for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Bologna continue to win and have found themselves legitimately in the race for a top four finish, and Alexis Saelemaekers is enjoying a new lease of life.

Calciomercato.com recall that Saelemaekers had yet another convincing performance during Bologna’s win over Salernitana at the weekend that stands in complete contrast to the difficult times he had towards the end of his time at Milan.

Of the yellow cards shown by the referee Sozza to Salernitana, six were the work of the Belgian who drew foulds from Tchaouna, Mazzocchi, Dia, Daniliuc, Gyomber and Kastanos. He is now playing in a proactive way with ‘mental freedom’, and Thiago Motta is enjoying having someone like him on the right.

However, it must also be noted that Milan let Saelemaekers go in the summer and they did so in a reasoned manner. The need to find a player who could bring international experience on the right wing and above all the search for someone more incisive in front of goal led Moncada and Furlani and made the choice fall on Christian Pulisic, with Samuel Chukwueze behind him to add quality depth.

There was no more space for Saelemaekers and therefore he was forced to find somewhere else to play, joining Bologna on a €500k paid loan with a €10m option to buy. He is doing well in Emilia-Romagna, but that amount for the option to buy is very expensive in the eyes of the Rossoblu.

The player’s desire to stay could be crucial and a lot will depend on where Bologna end up at the end of the season: an excellent finish could give a boost to their ambitions and spending €10m could be possible. Otherwise, it will have to be renegotiated.

    1. Same as Sinisa. He even stated that he’d never coach Milan. But in the end, it’s safe to say that he’s on the better side of coaches during our dark age

  1. Alex was also good at Milan. He was the one who always fought. But I think both Messias and Alex are better than Chukwu. With Alex, our midfield was more stable. I want Alex back!

      1. winger needs to score goals. he is a winger you can call it what you want but he is a winger and not a very good one imao. He has some skill and no end product, been that way for years

    1. Yeah that’s a weird article 😆
He has done nothing out there so far. He’s on a good trajectory right now, getting some more minutes, so he has still a lot of time to impress in this season, but i don’t understand where did someone come up with an idea to call this a reborn.

      1. Same for CDK. He’s got 2 goals and 2 assists in almost half a season and some are saying he’s back. 2 goals and 2 assists is more than zero, but hardly earth shaking. Hopefully this “pace” will be enough to convince Atalanta to take up the option to buy.

  2. Our greatest players are Italian (Paolo and G. Rivera) Dutch (HIM!) Brazilian (Kaka), Ukrainian (Sheva) and even Liberian and pur top scorer all time happens to be Swedish. Diversity is a good thing and the foreign players we sign show their love for Italian culture. Tomori learned the language in less than 2 months and Mussah came speaking Italian. Anyone would love to live and work in Milan. Its Milan FFS! Not to mention the money footballers get paid. Where I come from there’s a saying…’Pesa sabuni ya roho’ which loosely tranlates to Money is the soap of the heart or Money cleanses all negative feelings..lol!

We also played the youngest Serie A debutant who happened to be Italian. Sacchi hqs a point but we need to pivot from the issue of foreign v local to the substance of our problems; Tactics, depth and Muscle injuries!

  3. 600++ minute playing time 0 goal & 0 asist . Is this reborn ? He is not defensive midfield or defender , his job create goal and asist
