The Coppa Italia quarter-final defeat against Atalanta last night saw another potential trophy vanish for AC Milan, and the 2023-24 season now risks being a very forgettable one.
Calciomercato.com write that ‘the breaking moment’ occurred when the referee Marco Di Bello’s final whistle went after 95 minutes of play last night, with a couple of controversial decisions certainly coming before that.
The Milan fans booed the team and their coach Pioli profusely. For the first time all sectors responded in unison as an immediate reaction to yet another disappointment at the midway point of the season.
The Rossoneri are out of the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in January and they are nine points behind Inter. This is too much even for a fan base that has always stood out for its unconditional support for the team.
Giorgio Furlani spoke to Sky after the game, and even he seemed a bit fed up: “It’s very disappointing because we wanted to stay in the running in all possible competitions, even in Serie A we believe we can do better, this evening there were negative episodes which unfortunately penalised us, but not everything is going badly and we remain focused on the present with clarity and the desire to do well.”
Reading between the lines, the Rossoneri CEO seems to send a message to his coach Pioli, guilty of not having achieved the first objectives of the season.
At the end of the season, owner Gerry Cardinale will evaluate the performance of the coach based on these results and after the post-Salernitana turbulence, this new disappointment could mark the end of the relationship, either in a few months or sooner.
I would rather talk about furlani’s future! He throw the money on a brainless musah and chokewueze
Chukwueze is a great player. He took a while to get going but he is a good signing.
It’s a shame we have so many injuries and two key players at AFCON but in terms of league position we’re exactly where we deserve to be, 3rd, Pioli or no Pioli. Inter and Juve spend the cash and we don’t unless we lose a key player, their wage bills are significantly higher and that’s the price you pay. This squad at Best is a 3rd placed squad. If we want to compete we need a striker, a defensive midfielder and, let’s be honest, better luck with injuries or a better medical team cause something ain’t right.
Great player, I’d don’t get why you are overhyping such player ???, if you are satisfied with him then you are enjoying our current team – management – players, but it’s a shame for Ac Milan Club
I like Chukwueze, he has scored some important goals and I personally am optimistic the best is yet to come. He just needs a bit of confidence but all the goals he’s scored have been vital and against strong opposition. I don’t mind the management either, as per my comments below, our team is a 3rd best team, if we want more then we need a stronger squad.
inter had a positive balance after selling and buying and juve didnt buy anyone new, so tell us some more how they spend money to win… Inter only bought Pavard while we’re at it..
& wages have jack sh*t to do with being competitive in serie a. Why? because last season napoli and Lazio were #1 & #2 and they both have lower wages bill than Milan.
This Milan squad could easily been #1 if we had a competnet coach. We are 3rd with an average one ffs, who somehow managed to kill one of the best left side duos in world football nowadays (theo-leao combo). Last season those 2 had 30 G&A between them, season before 31. Right now they’re at 11. Pulišić alone has 11…
That’s not correct. Last season Inter made a loss. They are also in debt heavily which they need to repay or refinance soon.
Re wages, Juve and inter have the highest wage bills in serie a (1st and 2nd), Milan are 4th (surprise surprise).
On the topic of theo and Leao, I agree with you off the back of the fact we now have enough depth in defence to take out of cb. That’s a mistake to keep Theo there.
It’s also true that our defense has been more leaky this year, with the exception of tomori and theo, thiaw and Calabria have not been great and it makes it very difficult for attackers when you leak goals so heavily compared to the scudetto season where our defense was our strong suit, especially in those numerous 1 goal margin wins at the tail end of the season.
I disagree with you on the fact we need a new coach, as with the squad we have we will not be #1, maybe #2, but you’re joking if you think this team is better than an inter team who quite literally have 2 quality options for every single position. When cuadrado and fratesi start on the bench you’ve got serious depth. Two defenders who would easily step into the Milan starting 11.
h didnt understand a single thing i wrote, but that is to be expected from someone who thinks we dont need a new coach.
Dude thinks having a35y0 cuadrado on the bench is depth.. They paying him 4-6M gross and he did 261 minutes. Reality is inter doesnt have much depth & their subs barely play. I wont be suprised if they run out of steam in about 2 months and juve finishes first
I don’t agree with chukwueze, he is overhyped, not a good signing in my opinion
In addition to Furlani note Moncada, and Loftus-Cheek for the player they brought last summer
Pioli out ASAP no cl no Coppa Italia and prolly no scudetto so kick him that’s what you did to maldini right?
that one is definitely racist.
I addressed all your points, you’re wrong cause inter made a loss last season and they’re in huge debt. You’re also wrong about wages, the 2 series a leaders have the biggest wage bills. So I did understand.
Cuadrado is a weapon and inters subs play all the time, Fratesi scored the winner against Verona, but it’s easy to tell when someone doesn’t actually watch the games, just another #PioliOut whinger who reads more about football then actually watching it. If you think inter doesn’t have real depth then your football knowledge simply isn’t enough to engage in discussion. When the subs of inter could walk into the Milan first team that’s when you know they have depth, but you seem to like to insult people without actually pointing out facts.
I think inter will win easy as they have by far the best squad allegri seems to want to win every game 1-0 and that’s a dangerous game in modern football.
All facts! I disagree with your assessment of Chukuweze but everything else I agree. Inter squad is on par with City, Real and Bayern. Those are the top teams in the world. They can make UCL final again. We cannot (even before our UCL exit). They’re the most equipped squad. Juve is next then us. The Serie A table reflects the quality of squads/coach in general. I think people think we’re better than we actually are and we’re not.
Also I don’t think there’s any that could do a better job with these guys bar maybe the topmost coaches (Inzaghi, Klopp, Pep…and that’s a MAYBE)
Someone finally talking sense… Inter are stacked as, I’m quite literally jealous about their ability to pay higher salaries and throw money around, fratesi is on the bench!!! That tells you everything you need to know. If dimarco gets injured they got Augusto, if calhanoglu is injured they have aslani, if thuram they have arnautovic… Tbh inzaghi is a good coach yeah but he’s also got a mad squad, same goes for pep (love pep don’t get me wrong but he’s always coached cashed up clubs – obviously he’s good but he’s always got $$$).
@flyingturtle Well I based that on…lemme see here….hmmm….the freaking final last year of the UCL where Inter could and should have won against probably the best team in Europe…City. wtf, why are u playing subs vs subs when u can just watch the starting XI battle it out? Inzaghi has a well coached team and is a great cup coach.
do u not watch other games? What have you been consuming haha 😂😂😂 flying turtle indeed what an apt name 🤣🤣🤣
U know what lemme humour you
I’m going to take the “subs” for Real and Inter and put them lined up against each other and you tell me who you’d take lol
(For less than 1000 minutes played) :
Real: Lunin; Tobias, Carillo, Injuredtao, Vasquez; Ceballos, Paz, Diaz, Guler,.Marin; Rodriguez
Inter: Audero; De Vrij, Pavard, Bisseck; Aslani, Frattesi, Injuredrado, Sensi, Klassen ; Sanchez, Arnautovic
That’s not clear by any team imo but I’d take Inter’s backline any day and probably their overall sub team
No point arguing on this comment section, lots of reading football fans but not those who watch the game day in day out. Anyone who doesn’t think inter have a stacked squad is incapable of thinking critically about football. They just want to complain about Pioli… Then a new coach comes in like Napoli and boom ‘oh it was the president bla bla’. Classic fans like the media, hot one day and cold the other depending on the most recent result.
@Paps. That’s where the “maybe” comes in. Pep only coached teams with top 5 players in them.
LOL on par with city, real or bayern.. what have you been consuming?
Field the subs of those 3 vs the subs of šhinter and say that again.. i dare you!
Furlani
Pioli
Mocada
Should F go
You guys care about what owners will put on pocket looser
I care about milan
“It’s very disappointing because we wanted to stay in the running in all possible competitions, even in Serie A we believe we can do better”. Lol 🤣 I guess that’s for Pioli thinking Inter would win the Scudetto
