Among the most satisfying notes from AC Milan’s 4-1 Coppa Italia victory against Cagliari on Tuesday night was how much the young players played a part.
Stefano Pioli chose to name quite an interesting starting line-up which featured the likes of Antonio Mirante, Jan-Carlo Simic, Alex Jimenez, Luka Romero and Chaka Traore against an also rotated Cagliari side.
It was the Luka Jovic and Theo Hernandez show in the first half as Milan ran out to a commanding two-goal lead, with the latter setting up the former twice, then a memorable moment came for Traore as he scored to make it 3-0. Rafael Leao added some gloss to the scoreline in the closing stages.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) has a segment titled: ‘The charge of the golden youth’. They write how in the first half of the season there are several young players who are showing off in Italy.
Among these there is, for example, Chaka Traoré. As mentioned he got his first start for the senior side and he repaid Pioli’s faith with a goal in the second half.
There are seven Under 20 players who have been used by Pioli in official matches this season, with the likes of Francesco Camarda, Simic, Kevin Zeroli, Luka Romero, Davide Bartesaghi and Jimenez also present.
