Malick Thiaw is on the final stretch of his injury recovery, per a report, and should be back for AC Milan’s clash against Atalanta. It is scheduled for the end of the month and Fikayo Tomori’s return should then follow.
Thiaw has been on the sidelines since the game against Borussia Dortmund at the end of November, pulling his hamstring. No surgery was needed for the German, thankfully, who thus was able to shorten the recovery time a bit.
According to Corriere della Sera, as cited by MilanNews, Thiaw should be back in 15-20 days which means Atalanta at home should be his comeback game. Tomori’s return will then follow, having sustained a less serious hamstring injury at the end of December.
The story is quite different for Pierre Kalulu, who did undergo surgery and will have to be gradually inserted into group training again. His return is not immediate, therefore, and we can expect to see him back perhaps at the end of March or early April.
In the meantime, Pioli will continue to rely on Matteo Gabbia, Simon Kjaer and Jan-Carlo Simic for the centre-back positions. The return of Gabbia from Villarreal has indeed been crucial but the situation remains tricky, with five games left until Thiaw’s expected return.
