Rafael Leao has come under fire for his lack of AC Milan goals this season, despite the fact that his figures for assists are impressive and certainly help the team a lot.
A report from Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) has suggested that whilst the assists that Leao gets are useful, he needs to be scoring more goals to really make good on his potential and the contract that he was awarded last season.
Leao currently has eight assists in Serie A for the season which is a good, if unspectacular, tally. As for goals, though he has scored just three times in Serie A, once in the Champions League and twice in the Coppa Italia.
He has not scored in Serie A since September 23, when he netted the opener against Verona with the captain’s armband.
It is no secret that Leao is the most important player in this Milan team, as long as he is actually playing well. When Leao is not scoring goals, the entire team has so much unrecognised potential.
If Milan are to really make up any ground on Juventus and Inter ahead of them, Leao needs to become more clinical in front of goal.
