A number of Bologna players are in the sights of top clubs given the brilliant season they are having, but that interest also extends to the head coach Thiago Motta too.
This morning’s Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that Motta is becoming the object of desire for some top clubs and the future of the Italian-Brazilian remains uncertain at the moment.
Motta has already been contacted by the Bologna management regarding the renewal of his current deal, which expires in June, but the coach has prevaricated by saying that he is focused on the continuation of the season.
Clearly it will be difficult to keep an emerging manager like Motta for another year, and the paper states that both Milan and Juve know this and they are observing him closely.
The position of Stefano Pioli is defended by the ownership and his future is still to be deciphered, but the most likely scenario at the moment seems to be a separation at the end of the season.
CEO Giorgio Furlano has Thiago Motta at the top of his very personal list of candidates, while we should not forget the good relationship between Motta and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who were team-mates at PSG.
If for Juve it would be a total change of philosophy, there would be absolute continuity with Milan at least in terms of the approach on the field.
Currently the tactical design, although interpreted in different ways, is the same for the Rossoneri and Rossoblù. Four defenders, two midfielders, two wingers and an attacking midfielder who acts behind the striker.
Obviously the interpretation is different, but it is also dictated by the characteristics of the players. With Joshua Zirkzee, for example, Motta can exploit some characteristics that he could not take advantage of if he had Olivier Giroud leading the line.
Much will depend on Thiago Motta himself and what he wants to do, but yesterday his father-agent ruled out the idea of joining Napoli.
behalten sie einfach Pioli!
I think I could get excited about Motta.
It’s a gamble because he’s never won anything and we’d be replacing a coach with the second highest win ratio Milan’s history, but many dynasties are started with managers who have never previously won things.
Ancelotti was a serial loser, Guardiola was a youth team coach, Conte had not won anything and neither had Allegri.
They have to start somewhere.
If it works, and this team is able to rise to the next level, we could turn into something special wifi youth on our side.
It’s intriguing enough a prospect for me to want to take the risk – but it is a risk.
Don’t forget Sacchi and Capello who were also quite untested before taking over the Milan job.
I don’t think that’s where we should set the bar for Motta but he’s certainly promising.
Of course!
How could I forget!
Yep we can’t set the bar that high. We will in effect be rolling the dice so really anything could happen.
And juddah furlani understands the football as my 84 yo grandma does…
It’s a bit funny that Juve stuck with Allegri when he was floundering, but now that he has them playing extremely well, they might sack him. I get that there were contractual reasons though.
Yes Thiago Motta is the best
I like the idea of Motta and think he’s a better fit. I don’t know how long Motta’s ideas would take to come to fruition at Milan.
But I also feel that Milan needs to rediscover that winning mentality that Conte comes with…. He could transform the players to the next level. If Leao isn’t sold he’d either become next level OR warm the bench.
I’m conflicted.
