Thiago Motta has been linked with taking over as the head coach of AC Milan, and now Bologna’s CEO Claudio Fenucci has spoken about his future.
As this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) reports that Motta is being targeted by Milan and Juventus ahead of the 2024-25 campaign given the impressive work that he has done with Bologna.
Not only that, but his contract with the Rossoblu expires at the end of the current campaign which means that he will be free to sign for another club without any compensation being owed.
Claudio Fenucci, the CEO of Bologna, has now spoken about the future of Motta beyond this season and the possibility of him potentially signing a contract extension.
“Renewal of Motta? We will meet his agent again and see if we can make some progress. There is no dead line. There’s too much talk about it,” he said.
“For me the future is not a factor of concern. There is too much talk about the future of Thiago and our players who are all registered for Bologna, a financially strong club.
“I would look more at the present as we are fighting for a great goal, which requires everyone’s concentration. We think game by game. I would like us to be more careful about living the path we are on.
“We will think in the future about how to improve the team, it will depend on the market. Motta and his staff work as if they had a long-term contract with this club.”
Clearly it will be difficult to keep an emerging manager like Motta for another year, and the paper states that both Milan and Juve know this and they are observing him closely.
Much will depend on the coach himself and what he wants to do, but yesterday his father-agent ruled out the idea of joining Napoli.
Conte I understand the rumors around him, he’s a proven winner.. I’ll never get this infatuation with Motta. I’m sure he’s got some good ideas but he has literally never won anything. Props to the guy for getting Bologna firing but the idea of replacing a scudetto winning coach with Motta is just comical. I’m sure there will be the usual Pioli haters in the comments who are hot and cold but let me say this, if we hire Motta I hope he gets some signings to help him because the guy hasn’t proven himself yet to steer the ship at a big club like Milan.
Replacing a scudetto winner Pioli with Motta is comical?
Can you tell us what did Pioli ever win before he won the scudetto with Milan? Keep in mind that he had been a coach since 1999.
He won nothing from 1999 till 2022 and hasn’t won anything since 2022.
Some people in here act like Milan is looking to replace Sacchi, Capello and Ancelotti, serial winners , not Pioli who stumbled on 1 trophy.
‘Stumbled’. ‘won anything since 2022’ You don’t win the Scudetto by accident and that’s only 2 seasons with a squad that is rightly in 3rd place. This is why I don’t bother to get into the comments cya buddy
Yes Stumbled. If you have been a coach for 25 years and you have only won 1 trophy in your entire career, that single trophy that you have won seems like accidental win.
Also, imagine if Barcelona was listening to close-minded fans like you and decided to not appoint Pep Guardiola, who had never coached a first team before, to replace Frank Rijkaard. BTE Rijkaard won 2 Spanish leagues and the champions league and was replaced with a rookie coach who became the best coach of his era.
True, also Capello, Sacchi, and Ancelotti, this club’s greatest ever managers, were pretty much untested before their appointments.
Pioli’s cycle has run it’s course and he should leave as a highly respected and admired coach of this team.
the main question is what is our goal… do we want trophies or we are satisfied with top 4, CL and good bussiness… if we want letter i think motta wont be good choice because he is too young and unexpirienced…
also to mention it is big difference now and when pioli was appointed (you guys are mixing apples and oranges)… before pioli there was really turbulent period with giampaolo, gattuso, montella etc. we even was not in battle for top 4 and CL…
now we have to take a coach who will take us on the next level (in battle for tropies where we are not at the moment)…
but if you are happy with 3rd place and players like musah, chukwueze etc., ok, then motta…
If we go a bit back even Max was an unproven coach when Milan hired him.
Your argument for Motta is weak as fúck, like all your comments are.
This is how football coaching works. You do a good job at a low-mid table club and maybe you get a chance from a bigger dog.
Motta, Gilardino and Palladino are rasing young coaches. Idk why you’d expect for them to have big club exp when they are at the beginning of their coaching careers..
I think milan wont go to Motta. This is just media bluffl. Hes going nowhere, they must wait until end of this season.
