Costacurta jokes about Ibrahimovic taking his record: “I haven’t left the house”

Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has joked about being a bit upset to see a club record fall to Zlatan Ibrahimovic last night.

Ibrahimovic had been out of action since the game against Sassuolo last May which sealed the Scudetto win as he underwent a major surgery on his knee having played for the second half of the season in severe pain, but last night he made his return during the 2-0 win against Atalanta.

He also became a record breaker too, given that 41 years and 146 days old he is now the oldest Milan player to play a Serie A game in the three-points-per-win era, overtaking Costacurta who was 41 years and 25 days.

Costacurta spoke to Sky and reacted to his record being beaten by the Swede, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“I’m devastated, I haven’t left the house since last night when I saw Zlatan enter… (laughs). Records are made to be broken, I’m a little sorry… I think he can still give something on the pitch after already giving it off the pitch,” he said.

“At that age he can still give something on the pitch. Does Milan extend careers? Twenty years ago I thought yes, I have to thank those innovative techniques that helped us a lot. Now an important upgrade has been made and I believe that sooner or later someone will surpass Ibrahimovic.”
