Former Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta believes that Stefano Pioli’s side deserved to win their Champions League game against Newcastle United last night.
Milan came into the game against Newcastle needing a response after a dismal 5-1 defeat in the derby against Inter on Saturday, and their defensive effort was certainly a lot better as they managed a clean sheet.
The stats show that they definitely should have found a way to win too, with 25 shots to the visitors’ six, with nine of those on target to the Magpies’ one. Milan also had four big chances to zero, but Nick Pope’s heroics and some bad finishing saw the English side escape with a point.
Costacurta was part of the Sky studio that was covering the game and he reacted after the full-time whistle, revealing his belief that the Rossoneri were unlucky not to have won all three points.
“Milan deserved to win, absolutely. There’s a bitter taste in the mouth from the performance, only the goal was missing,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Everything necessary was done not only to win, but also to get out of a rather difficult situation like that of the post-derby.”
Pope is an example there are good keepers everywhere and you really dont need to pay 8+M salary for one
Pope is a joke. have you seen his epic f-ups?
That Liverpool one lol?
i have not but, everyone has those.
Even 8M a season mike 😀
Even the best GK of the century Manuel Neuer have those moments, LOL.
There will be nights like this. Important thing is to keep moving forward, like Dori said. It was more important to see the right attitude and response from the team after the derby, which I feel still haunted us a little bit. But overall they played A LOT better, with only the goal missing.
FORZA MILAN ⚫️🔴
Time to introduce Okafor and kick Leao to the bench!
Weird feeling we’ll come back to these dropped points at the end of the group phase a
So far, leao has under-performed and it’s affecting the team performance. Sometimes he overdo things. He’s one of the reason we drew the game yesterday.
Pioli is the reason we drew the game.
Bring on some different players and NOT the same ones.
He’s also lucky English managers can’t do tactics.
