There has been a lot of speculation in the media suggesting that Antonio Conte is a concrete option for AC Milan when the time comes to replace Stefano Pioli, and Fabrizio Romano has given his take.
There have been various sources who have claimed over the past few weeks that Pioli is very unlikely to be the manager at Milan heading into the 2024-25 season and that Conte could be targeted for a return to Serie A.
Forbes even wrote about the situation, and alluded to the idea that Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to bring in Conte as boss from next season, given that he has a history of winning and has been without a club since leaving Tottenham last season.
Romano spoke in his daily column for CaughtOffside in which he gave an update on a number of transfer stories, and at the end he spoke on the Conte-Milan rumours too.
“Links with AC Milan have attracted some attention on social media, but it’s not something for now – Conte is not a name for this season,” he said.
“These kind of stories are all part of summer plans and to be honest, it’s way too early to mention club plans for summer, especially during January transfer window. Conte’s future will be decided around May, so patience will be needed.”
We published a feature yesterday which took a look at Milan’s coaching conundrum heading into next season given the various routes they could go down, as well as a reflection on Pioli’s tenure so far.
Like I said… just media narratives to generate clicks. Pioli isn’t going anywhere until the summer. So might as well ignore the Conte titles 🙂
