AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani reiterated the words of his colleagues regarding the speculation surrounding the head coach position, stating that the club are ‘bored’ by it.
Despite the fact that the winter mercato has just closed and the team are in a decisive part of the season, there continues to be a lot of talk surrounding the 2024-25 season.
A lot of it is centred around the head coach position, with Stefano Pioli under pressure after some mixed results so far in the current campaign, and the early Champions League group stage exit.
Then, there continues to be plenty of stories about a summer transfer window that is likely to see a new striker arrive as the main investment. From Thiago Motta and Joshua Zirkzee to Antonio Conte and Benjamin Sesko, there is never a quiet day.
During the event organised by Milan for the launch of the fourth shirt in collaboration with PUMA and Pleasures, Furlani spoke to reporters on the red carpet including our own. MilanNews relayed his comments.
What do you think about Ibrahimovic, the ‘One man show’ in Sanremo and beyond?
“As I have already said several times, Ibra is a huge added value. He was a champion on the pitch and he is and will be one off the pitch too. We, as AC Milan fans, are lucky. like Milan as managers to have him as our partner.”
What about the stadium project in San Donato?
“We have this project in San Donato, we are moving forward on our path. It is a long process, obviously, but we hope to have a new stadium as soon as possible, also denying the disadvantage of the fact that in Italy it’s complicated to invest in infrastructure.”
How do you judge Milan’s performance this season?
“It went as it did. We had a not very easy period and we were also unlucky with the injury issue, but now everyone is slowly returning. The last few games went well. Now fingers crossed and we hope to finish the season is going well. However, we go out on the field every match to win. The calculations are made at the end.”
Leao is having a goal drought…
“All our players are appreciated. Rafa was unlucky in front of goal. The goals will come.”
A comment on the January window that just ended?
“So many of you ask me but I’ve been telling you all January that we won’t sign someone for the sake of it We’re happy that Gabbia is back. We have Kjaer, Simic, other players and others are returning.
“We’ve always said that we wouldn’t have bought that much, the players are there, the emergency is over. Buying to buy was to please the crowd but not a real necessity.”
Your thoughts on the rumours on Conte and Pioli’s position?
“The rumours about the Milan bench in February bother me too. Pioli is our coach, the club is with him. As Ibrahimovic said, the rumours about Conte annoy and bore us. Pioli is our coach, we’re lucky to have him and we are grateful for what he has achieved.”
Giroud’s deal is expiring in June…
“Olivier is a great champion. He came with a two-year contract which did him so well that we decided to continue and this year he is doing even better.”
Any comment on Joshua Zirkzee?
“He did well against us, in this league season, but he is a player from another team but it’s too early to talk about it.”
Could transfer strategies change in the summer considering the new Champions League?
“Absolutely not. When we get to January next year we will evaluate how to proceed.”
Napoli arrive on Sunday….
“We’re in good shape, our boys like to decide games in the last minute and maybe it could end like this against the Neapolitans too.”
A comment on Jovic’s performances?
“I’m absolutely not surprised by Jovic. I was sure he would do that.”
