Former AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has revealed that there is a scenario whereby a player could wear the number three shirt for the Rossoneri.
Maldini is simply an icon of Milan, having played at the club for all 25 seasons of his career. He even held the record for most appearances in Serie A with 647, until 2020 when he was overtaken by Gianluigi Buffon.
He won 26 trophies with the Rossoneri including the European Cup/UEFA Champions League five times, seven Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, five Supercoppa Italiana titles, five European/UEFA Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup. Following his retirement after the 2008–09 season, Milan retired his number 3 shirt.
This evening at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan, Galliani presented his autobiography ‘The memoirs of Adriano G.’ and he revealed an interesting bit of information regarding the No.3 shirt, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“Unlike Franco Baresi’s shirt which has been retired forever, Paolo Maldini’s shirt has been retired but – if one of his sons were to be at Milan and were to lift the cup – then the number three shirt can be brought back,” he said.
