GdS: Giroud’s recent penalty form raises questions at Milan – the numbers

By Euan Burns -

Olivier Giroud’s poor recent form from the penalty spot has led to some reflections at AC Milan, with all eyes on who will take the next penalty that the Rossoneri receive.

As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Frenchman appears to have lost his touch from the penalty spot in the past 18 months.

He had the chance to equalise in the first half against Bologna from the penalty spot on Saturday but managed to miss, which was his third penalty miss in the past 18 months for Milan.

He missed a penalty against Napoli in the Champions League last season, and missed one in the same tournament this season against Borussia Dortmund. Having now missed the controversial one against Bologna, there could be a change of penalty taker at Milan.

His career record remains very good, having missed only one other penalty from his 38. That was for Arsenal in 2012 against Coventry City in the League Cup.

The report claims that Leao has already got his eye on the penalty-taking duties. He is trying to convince Stefano Pioli in training that he should take over from Giroud.

He has only taken one competitive penalty in his career, for Portugal against Luxembourg, and he missed.
