Due to the right schedule at San Siro, with AC Milan and Inter playing a lot, the pitch could be relaid in the middle of the season just like last year. However, we’re not quite there yet.
Last season, Milan ad Inter were forced to play on a really bad pitch at the start of 2022 and in the end, the pitch was relaid. They didn’t just have the usual league and VCoppa Italia games, but the Supercoppa Italiana (went to extra-time) also took its toll.
This year it has been a tad better in that respect but the tight schedule (14 games since January 4th and tomorrow) has made the pitch ‘stressed’, as reported by Gazzetta Dello Sport. It could thus be relaid during the break in March, but it would cost the clubs €500k.
Milan and Inter are thus hoping that the pitch will recover in the coming weeks. There will be no more mid-week clashes and that will help massively, not just for the pitch itself but also for the groundsmen that take care of it.
Another reason to have our own stadium. We would literally be cutting the pitch usage by 50%.
