GdS: Milan player ratings for Empoli win – RLC shines; Jimenez struggles

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan registered their third straight win across all competitions in Sunday’s early kick-off as they beat Empoli 3-0 away from home.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) has their ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance and that of head coach Stefano Pioli, both of which earned a 6.5 out of 10.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was named by the paper as the man of the match at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, earning a 7, with Alex Jimenez coming off the bench and struggling to deal with Cancelleri so he got the lowest score (5.5).

Mike Maignan had a relatively quiet afternoon but did make a good stop during Empoli’s best spell to secure a 6, while Davide Calabria and Simon Kjaer were given the same grade, as was Alessandro Florenzi.

Theo Hernandez excelled in the centre-back position again, registering a score of 7. Yacine Adli was given a 6 for his showing in a deeper midfield role, while Tijjani Reijnders, Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud all got half a point higher.

Chaka Traore came off the bench and scored his second goal in two games to earn a 7, with Yunus Musah getting valuable minutes as a substitute to continue his recovery from injury (6).

  1. I agree with their evaluation of Jimenez. I would even give him a 5. He was overrun several times, and against a better team, we would have been punished.

    1. Yep, he’s not ready for 4-4-2
He’s more 3-5-2 kind of player.
He must work on his defence now

How on the Earth Giroud got 6.5? Because of the penalty? He was so bad today

    2. The space he occupied was weird. I’m not sure if not was intentional that he was playing sort of inverted or not. That created space for an overlapping winter. Bartesaghi had way better positioning

  2. Jimenez has a LOT of potential. You can see he loves running forward, but his defensive phase needs to improve a lot. He was outplayed often on the RT. Maybe that’s not his preferred side, I don’t know. But he has a lot of upside and time to improve.

  3. Since he will most like go back to Real Madrid if he improves and becames good, I’d rather stop using him and give more time to Bartesaghi. Let’s not continue this trend of forming players for other clubs.
