AC Milan got both the result and the performance that they desperately needed against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with a number of players standing out for how well they played.
The victory means that Milan still have a chance of getting into the round of 16 of the Champions League, but they will need to pick up a good haul of points from their final two games against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund.
Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) has taken a look at the performances of each player and have named Rafael Leao as the standout performer with an 8.5 out of 10. He scored the equaliser for Milan and was a threat throughout.
There were some strong scores in the defence with Mike Maignan and Davide Calabria getting 7/10, whilst Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Theo Hernandez got 6.5. Calabria did particularly well to limit the impact of Kylian Mbappe.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek was the best player in the midfield with a 7.5, whilst Tijjani Reijnders and Yunus Musah got 7/10. They worked very hard which allowed Loftus-Cheek to drive forward with the ball and create problems for PSG.
Olivier Giroud netted the winner and got 7.5 out of 10, whilst Pulisic got 6.5 before he was taken off with an injury. Stefano Pioli was given 7.5 for his management of the game.
I remember some dude said adli is the best midfielder milan has
I think several dudes around here said that.
This dude doesn’t abides to that 😛
I, too, remember that was it @Salence forgot the name.
Reijnders deserves a lot credit for helping stop Mbappe. This is the only place I hear it mentioned.
Yep he was key in defence..it was overlooked in SempreMilan ratings too. But he was very good positions in Defence. His offense wasn’t there but it wasn’t needed as much. Besides MBappe was on his flank so it made sense to prioritize stopping him
What a marvelous evening it was and we could even have won with a greater margin, proud of our teams performance.
That’s a harsh rating for Tomori, he was solid as a rock. That moment in the last few minutes when Mbappe was in the box and Tomori just got in front and saw the ball out for goal kick rather than boot it away for a corner. The sky is the limit for him.
Maignan, Ruben, Calabria and Rafa all superb. Calabria loves a scrap, he seems to perform better against world class players.
I think the only negatives were the chances we missed, in the CL you can’t waste those chances, there was Rubén’s at 0-1, and then Rafa’s, Pulisic and Musah’s chances too.
Ruben is so important to us, his ability to carry the ball and his physicality is crucial To how we play.
Okafor scoring would have been nice to make is 3-1 but a great night and the last 20 mins defending was reminiscent of old.
I think Pioli did ok too, I’d have liked to see Okafor earlier to give us an outlet apart from Rafa as psg were piling on the pressure.
Not sure about the 1 point difference between Leao and RLC – RLC was the driving force last night
Overall RLC was deffently instumental for our success yesterday but he also didnt mark skriniar on psgs goal so it makes sense that his rating is a bit lower.
The defenders deserved more credit than that. Yes the midfield helped snuff out alot of attacks before into to the box but they also did the work to mop up
First – great win and nice to see the team work collectively to get the result.
Defense – Nice to see Thiaw have a more consistent game and Calabria did well on Mbappe but he often did just enough to disrupt Mbappe’s dribbling for Tomori to support and clear.
Attack – Leao was a consistent threat last evening. Its sometimes boring to see our attack weighted around Giroud headers but it has brought important goals and he was impactful defending corners being the tall man in the front. Pulisic, idk I have been unimpressed by him.
Midfield – RLC did well but I appreciate some comments on his poor coverage. Musah has been a workhorse and has stepped up well. Perhaps I’m watching a different game but I am just not sold on Reijnders. Yes he helped with Mbappe but still made several clumsy passes in our half and offers little-to-nothing going forward. Call me crazy but I’d rather see Pobega in his spot or at least rotate Pobega in a bit more whether Serie A or Champions League.
Forza Milan
BostonRossonero is crazy. Slowbega for Reijnders, you really are crazy
Great game, great result for Milan. When the team plays together, they achieve great results, regardless of who scores. Was disappointed that Pioli didn’t make the changes on time. Leao and Pulisic were clearly worn out. Also, the team plays better when all our first team players are available. So, the coach has to adjust to playing without some of them. We can’t keep playing badly when one or two first team players are not available. We were also too defensive last night.
i can understand your initial statement but too defensive ? come on !!!! we actually had more shots on target than psg in the first half and we actually turned our game up a notch in the second half untill we whent under great pressure towards the end of the second half.
