AC Milan are not just working on potential signings for the January transfer window but also the renewals of players they consider crucial to their plans.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports that the Milan management are looking to extend Davide Calabria’s contract. There has been little talk about it in recent weeks – the renewals of Olivier Giroud and Mike Maignan are worrying the fans more – but something has also moved in the background recently.
Milan and Calabria’s agents have met and have more new meetings planned. There is a common desire: to extend the contract, without coming close to the current one expiring. His last renewal arrived in July 2021 and was less than 12 months from the June 2022 expiry.
This time it should be possible to resolve everything earlier, without tension, maybe after the January transfer window. Calabria earns just over €2m net per season and he is linked to Milan until June 2025, so there is no immediate rush.
However, the is the captain of the team and the management want to be proactive to tie down a player who came through the academy and has good years ahead of him, especially given Alessandro Florenzi is no longer 25 and Pierre Kalulu has been used more as a centre-back.
Calabria ftw
1.8M€ should be fine. Not a raise at least. Maybe with bonuses so we’d see more of Good Calabria instead of the Calamity Calabria.
Calabria is our main problem…..he is the weakest among the team!
