Leao responds to his critics after victory against PSG: “I talk on the pitch”

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has responded to his critics with his superb performance in the Champions League victory against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Speaking after the match at the San Siro to Sport Mediaset (via Milan News), the Portuguese forward was keen to point out that he does his talking on the pitch when it comes to responding to those who like to criticise him.

Many pundits have been suggesting that Leao may not be the right sort of player for Milan due to a perceived lack of effort without the ball, but his goal and great performance against PSG have shown what he can do.

“They [the critics] push me. People can keep talking, I talk on the pitch,” Leao said.

On what this win means for the team after a tough run of form, Leao said that the team showed their true colours on Tuesday.

“Today we showed who we really are, I have no words, I am delighted,” he said.

Milan won the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Leao and Olivier Giroud after Milan Skriniar had opened the scoring.

  1. Slight correction: He SOMETIMES talks on the pitch.
Sure he can look like a superstar in a crucial CL match against a big club but he also often disappears in Serie A against any relegation team, just walking around like a petulant child.
We need more consistency for $5.4M net base salary + bonuses.

  2. That’s the problem with Leao. He’s inconsistent. THe games he’s charged up for, he’s stellar. But Udine type performance, he’s just MIA. To truly get to next level, he needs to play every game like tonight.

  3. When we won the Scudetto , although Ibra played very, very, limited minutes I credit him for motivating Rafe….guy is a head case, when he wants to be great he can be.

  4. Always happy when he has one of these games as it gets the world off his back for a bit.

Honestly, I think the next evolution in his game is to migrate toward playing as a second striker.

What hurts him and Milan is our inability to evolve tactics and the formation while keeping him on the left.

I get that he has struggled and it is probably something I’d set for training over the end of year break as opposed to trying to get it sorted week to week.

The wing is probably the easiest part of the ground to close down. I’d like to see us try something like a 4-4-2 with Okafor / Pulisic on the left and Chukwueze / Pulisic on the right, or even more conservative midfielders on the left and right or a 3-5-2 which seems to me to be a better fit for the squad.

Feels like we are too much AC Leao which cycles through patches of 1 month on and 1 month off based on whether Leao can get the job done himself.

  5. I like watching when he also defends. That makes Theo and midfield works a bit easier.

And I hope Leao keeps growing and improving because this guy have the potential to become one of the best LW in the world.

  6. Who is this kid shushing? Great performance , but iIt’s not as if he’s going to repeat it in the next match anyway.

Put together some consistent top class performances, spice it with some braces and hatricks, and you can shush anyone all you want.
