AC Milan dropped another two points on Saturday evening against Bologna as they conceded a last-minute penalty, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s performance was one of the positives to take.
As MilanNews write, the English midfielder is proving to be a very successful signing. His potential was very clear from the start, with his performances during the excellent start to the season making it clear why the management wanted him.
With his physicality and his dynamism, Loftus-Cheek has become Stefano Pioli’s atypical attacking midfielder, capable of carrying the ball forward thanks to his size and also finishing plays himself.
His level grew after recovering from injury and against PSG at San Siro he was a man of the match candidate after a demonstration of overwhelming strength.
After the goals in Empoli and Udinese, his brace at San Siro against Bologna means that he has four goals in his last four league games too, adding another attacking weapon to the side.
Physical problems accompanied Loftus-Cheek even in his first months with the Rossoneri, and inevitably affected his performances, which is perhaps why in certain situations he lacked consistency and he did not always perform to the best of his abilities.
The physical discomfort seems to be behind him and consequently he is becoming a fundamental player, combining quality with work rate and now getting goals for the sacrifices.
RLC is great when he’s in form, which hopefully he is now getting back into. But he isn’t much help in transition or to help defend. I’d argue puli does more defending than RLC.
He is great driving forward though. Bologna game was almost as good as his PSG performance, but we expect that to be his norm and not some weird outlier.
I agree 100%. Hes okay, but if the goals dry up, he offers nothing else. He gets in the way of leao and pulisic often. Not the proper CAM Milan require. I know pioli loves the box-to-box to play as a 10 since he did it with kessie but we were better with brahim there and we would be better with pulisic there. We need chuck to get more time at RW, he was the most expensive signing and were sacrificing his growth for RLC.
What? Kessie played there and we got scudetto, Diaz played there and we lost the UCL spot and you said we better with Diaz?
was expectng less from him 2 be honest. But when he is in form he is a proper beast. Now he just needs to stay fit and be in hot form more often.
Where would this team be without the “Chelsea trash” signings…
Probobly at the same place. As people above said without the goals in two matches he practically hasnt done much else. You could have played Pobega in the same position and would have had the same effect without spending 20mil. Ac Milan needs something a lot better in AM in order to aim for the top.
