Bologna coach Thiago Motta could find himself leading Barcelona next season with Xavi set to depart the Blaugrana, a report claims.
As has been reported in Spain by Mundo Deportivo (via Milan News), Motta is one of the coaches that the Catalan side are looking at to replace Xavi.
It was announced after Barcelona’s recent 5-3 loss away at Villarreal that Xavi would step down from his role at the end of the season. Having been knocked out of the Copa del Rey and finding themselves 10 points behind Real Madrid in La Liga, he has no long-term future with the club.
That now means both Liverpool and Barcelona are looking for a new coach for next season, whilst Milan could still find themselves in the same position.
Stefano Pioli is still safe in his role for now but that hasn’t stopped various coaches being linked with Milan for next season, and Motta is arguably at the top of the list.
Were Milan to try and replace Pioli with Motta, they may now need to battle against Barcelona. Other names linked with the job include Luis Enrique, Mike Arteta, Sergio Conceicao and Klopp should he decide not to take a long break from football.
Milan should go for someone who has proven themselves beyond a single season. Klopp, Glasner, Flick etc. the only Italian coach that should be considered is De Zerbi
