After the vile chanting that took place during AC Milan’s fixture against Udinese, Yunus Musah has shed some more light on the situation and described what happened from his perspective.
The clash in Udine once again highlighted a problem that stems far from football and tarnished what was a great victory for Milan. For those unaware of the events, several individuals were involved with racist chants aimed at goalkeeper Mike Maignan, and five individuals have received banning orders.
It serves as the latest installation of football’s issue with racism, and it is hoped that this will push the relevant authorities to start increasing punishments for individuals involved. However, it also is a stark reminder of the length left before the problem is eradicated.
During the ‘Tutti i Colori dello Sport’ (which translates to ‘All the Colors of the Sport’) initiative, the American midfielder shared his views, and his comments were relayed by Radio Rossonera.
On the chants…
“The fans always shout something against it, but enough is enough. It happened to me at Valencia [racist chants to players] and also on Saturday. However, we showed that something can be done on the pitch.
“Mike did not want to continue, but we stood by him and did not leave him alone. These actions must now have consequences. Something must be done and our reaction on the pitch was right, it gave us the confidence that we are a united group,” he said.
“Patience and respect are the keys to a good relationship with teammates. Playing and studying at the same time has always appealed to me.”
