Official: Milan loan Daniel Maldini to Monza after cutting Empoli spell short

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have officially loaned Daniel Maldini to fellow Serie A side Monza, cutting his loan spell at Empoli short after a poor start to the season.

As has been announced by AC Milan on the official website, the loan at Empoli has been terminated ahead of time as it did not seem to be a good fit for the player.

He has made seven appearances in Serie A so far this season, failing to ever spend the full 90 minutes on the pitch. Son of club legend Paolo Maldini, the winger had to deal with injury issues in the first few weeks of his time at Empoli.

Rather than play a role for Milan, he will now be loaned to Monza for the rest of the season, a club that the Rossoneri have a close relationship with.

Maldini is a product of Milan’s youth academy and made his debut at 18 years old in 2020. He also played in the Champions League against Liverpool and got his first Serie A goal in September 2021.

He spent last season on loan at Spezia where he scored three goals in 20 appearances, and will now try to help Raffaele Palladino’s side get into the top half of the table.

    1. Just moving closer to home, nothing else.
If he couldn’t get much playing time in the worst team in the league, after the same thing happened on a team that got relegated last season, how is he going to get playing time on a Monza team that is in a fight for a Europe spot?
He is 22 years old and I don’t think he has played 1500 minutes of senior club football so far in his career.

      1. Look how they are playing, Empoli use 4312, there is only one place he can play. Monza play 3421 and there is 3 positions he can play. Much more likely for him to find space at Monza.

          1. Only more reason for him to cut his time at Empoli short and move to a team with more space. This move makes perfect sense for him. Doubt he will become a top player but can’t judge him for trying.

      2. “If he couldn’t get much playing time in the worst team in the league, after the same thing happened on a team that got relegated last season, how is he going to get playing time on a Monza team that is in a fight for a Europe spot?”

You should ask that question to Milan’s management because that’s what they are doing right now.
