Noah Okafor has expressed his excitement after he became the sixth summer signing for AC Milan, claiming that it is a ‘dream come true’ to join.
With a statement on their official website Milan confirmed that they have signed the forward from Salzburg on a five-year contract. Okafor has decided to wear the No.17 shirt, as was vacated by Rafael Leao with his move to No.10.
Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday among other sources that Milan will sign Okafor for €13-14m as a transfer fee. He will sign a deal worth €2m net per season and will now head out to meet his new team-mates in the United States.
Okafor spoke in an interview with Milan TV in which he revealed his emotions after making the switch, admitting that the contacts started after the Champions League meeting earlier last season.
“It’s a dream come true, I’m happy: I’m in a club full of history. I can’t wait to meet the fans at San Siro,” he said.
“I played against Milan in the Champions League, that’s where interest was born. Then a couple of weeks ago I received the news, I was happy because I only wanted Milan.
“Now the negotiation is over, so it’s time to push! I admired Kakà and Ronaldinho, I try to learn from legends like that to get to their level or even better.
“I scored in the first game in the Champions League, in the return I was impressed by San Siro. The fans supported the team for 90 minutes, it was incredible. Milan had so many young players, they tried to play football. I’m here to give my best and help the team. I can’t wait to get started.”
On his relationship with Leao: “I know Rafa off the pitch. After the Champions League games we started writing to each other and exchanging shirts.
“He speaks to me of Milan as a great club, where there are strong, fast players who dribble. Finally I’ll see him on the pitch as well and not just off it.”
On his characteristics and ambitions: “I’m fast and capable in one-on-one situations. I’m flexible, I can play as a first striker or in a duo attack, I want to take advantage of my speed.
“Italy is a step forward. Playing in the World Cup is a dream for every young player, you need discipline and I want to show it to Milan. I’m energetic.
“We’re a strong team, with important goals. Tomorrow I’ll go to Los Angeles and meet my team-mates, they’re all nice and easy-going.”
On his personality and his roots: “I am outgoing, always smiling. I am grateful to my family, I have two younger brothers and a sister with whom I spend a lot of time. When I can, I call them and relax.”
