Paolo Scaroni has ended up in the sights of journalist Franco Ordine after his decision not to attend a league meeting and his comments before the Coppa Italia game against Atalanta.
The importance of having a strong and cohesive top management cannot be understated at any time, but it is especially vital at a time when the club are under scrutiny for on and off-field matters.
After the game against Lecce, where there wasn’t even a director in the stands, a few hours before the match against Atalanta the absence of a club representative at the important meeting in Rome with the president of the Football Federation was even more bizarre.
Gravina hosted a meeting in which the future of Italian football was discussed. Inter, Juventus, Fiorentina, Bologna, Atalanta, Torino, Salernitana, Verona, Lazio, Roma and Lecce all had a representative there, but the Rossoneri did not.
Ordine published an article in today’s edition of Il Giornale in which he spoke about what has been a very difficult moment for the team after the cup elimination, and he questioned some of Scaroni’s choices including his strange comments before the game.
“For once, having received his second consecutive elimination, Stefano Pioli did not remain alone at the centre of the fans’ sights and social media,” he said (via MilanNews).
“At his side was Paolo Scaroni, president of Milan, Eni and with many other roles that prevented him from participating in the Roman summit with Gravina on football reforms, causing some discontent even at Milan.
“But what unleashed the Rossoneri world on the web were the improvident phrases uttered by Scaroni himself before the match against Atalanta (‘at the beginning you think there are too many matches in the Coppa Italia, then maybe you think about winning it’), which went viral.
“Immediately afterwards it was Pioli’s turn, dismissed by popular opinion (‘he ran out of credit’). […] Against the backdrop of this other AC Milan disappointment, the refereeing issue still persists, effectively summarised by CEO Giorgio Furlani who said: ‘It’s all chaos now’.
“According to Gasp, Pioli and Mou, the issue of the use of VAR has become central and is causing very serious disparities in interventions and results for the regularity of the season.”
I am sure that our ‘president’ can’t even name half of our players. I deserve to be the president more than him.
In fairness it is hard to keep up with all of the squad changes…
That’s how Scaroni treats annoyances in his world.
On Scaroni, he doesn’t need criticism as he makes himself the fool without any help.
How he has that job is beyond me!
Also I have Maldini’s words about him ringing in my ear. For a man of Paolo’s usual reserve to be so scathing of Scaroni says a lot.
I wish we had 1 solid Milanista in that board room of clowns
Scaroni is a bureaucrat that carried over from the previous ownership. I Probably because he is needed to navigate cesspool that is Italian politics in a continuous effort to finally start building the new stadium. Though he hasn’t proven to be very efficient or successful in that regard. Maybe Elliott insisted on him staying to protect their investment. Who knows.
Anyway, he is not a fan of the club, he he doesn’t understand the sport, nor does he care about clubs sporting success. He has repeated over and over again that top 4 is the goal and that it is more important and lucrative to play in UCL and reach knockout stages than winning trophies. He only cares about shareholder value and bottom line.
While him and people like him are at the helm, Milan will not grow as club. Not because its not feasible, but because its not cost effective.
What Maldini said about this old fat bastard Scaroni was correct. First in line for the photos when we won the Scudetto but first to leave stadium (or worse now not even show up to games) when we lose so he can “beat the traffic” LOLOLO. Pathetic. From a president like Berlu who bled red and black to this fat good for nothing geezer who just shows up for the photo ops.
Well done Gerry. Get rid of this leach
Scaroni is a muppet. Zero love for football. I’m sure they can find someone who is as good with numbers, or whatever he does, and also loves the game.
