Joshua Zirkzee managed to get on the scoresheet as Bologna clinched a 2-2 draw against AC Milan last night. The striker has been heavily linked with the Rossoneri and after the game, Stefano Pioli commented on his qualities.
Milan are expected to reinforce the squad with a striker in the summer and as has been reported by many sources, Zirkzee is one of the top targets. Therefore, it was just typical that the Dutchman opened the scoring last night.
In his interview with Sky Italia after the game, which you can read in full here, Milan manager Pioli heaped praise on Zirkzee. He stated that he has been following the player for a long time, fueling the transfer rumours.
“He’s a great player. I’ve followed him since his days at Bayern Munich and then at my Parma. A fantastic player, with physicality and quality. He has everything. He’s doing very well at Bologna,” he stated.
Of course, it remains to be seen if Pioli will be the manager of Milan next season. On our Substack back in December, we reported that Bologna manager Thiago Motta is currently in pole position to replace the 58-year-old. But the summer is not exactly around the corner, so a lot can change.
I’m not that excited.
He could be amazing, but he easily could just be a marginally same same.
Really a striker is the difference between winning and losing titles – no less.
Is he a title winner?
I think if we had money to spend and we were buying him to play as a second striker or AM as well as buying a number 9 ok. But that’s not going to happen. He is a luxury player.
We need a fighter, a ruthless player along the lines of Osimehn.
We don’t need another fancy player that misses chances. His shooting /finishing is not great. Perhaps he can improve that.
We create plenty of chances we just really need someone to put them away
He’s better than our current option 🙂 Isn’t that the point though? To improve?
My question is if he shows up on the big stage: Europe. Or does he fade in BIG games like Lukaku?
Zirkzee is a player for much higher goals than a team like Bologna can offer him. Last night, he was arguably the toughest opponent on the rival team. Fast, powerful and technically excellent player with an incredible overview of the game and moves that are difficult to predict! This type of footballer would find his place in almost every team. I know it’s going to be tough but next season I’d like to see him in our jersey !
