AC Milan have struggled defensively in the last few months and fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori. The recovery times have remained unchanged, so when will the trio be back in action?
Matteo Gabbia has returned to the club after his loan spell at Villarreal, performing quite well so far, but Milan are still lacking a lot of depth at the back. Above all, however, quality is lacking as the centre-back starters are on the sidelines currently.
Of course, we are talking about Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori, who all got injured towards the end of last year. As per the latest indications, the recovery times have remained effectively unchanged so let’s go through them one by one.
Thiaw: It seems like the Germany could be the first to return, having sustained a hamstring injury just at the end of November. There was never a clear return date for him, as this type of muscular setback can be highly individual, but Milan are hoping to have him back in mid-February.
Tomori: The Englishman also sustained a hamstring injury, more specifically on December 22nd, and he could perhaps make a return towards the end of February. But it could also be at the start of March, depending on how the final phase of the recovery goes.
Kalulu: The more serious injury of the three, the Frenchman underwent surgery at the end of October and can perhaps be back at the start of March. It is always delicate when a player has undergone surgery, so once again it will depend on how Kalulu feels towards the end of the recovery.
The main takeaway, therefore, is that Milan and Stefano Pioli will have to make it work with Simon Kjaer, Matteo Gabbia and Jan-Carlo Simic for at least a few more games.
We’ve been struggling defensively since the start of the season. They can add as many defenders they want but fact remains, this midfield is weak with no defensive coverage.
Especially considering Pioli insists on playing this idiotic 4-0-6 in possession.
