Romano: Milan duo to join Palermo and Salernitana on deadline day

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are expected to complete two deals on deadline day, with two young players now set to head out on loan.

According to what is being reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chaka Traoré will leave Milan on loan to join Palermo until the end of the season.

There will not West Bromwich Albion move despite the speculation that he could join the team who currently play in the Championship, and instead he will go to Serie B until June.

Traore had a fantastic start to the year, scoring against Cagliari in the Coppa Italia and then against Empoli in the league, but the feeling is that he needs more guaranteed minutes to aid his development.

Meanwhile, central defender Marco Pellegrino is set to join Salernitana on loan until the end of the season, after links with Hellas Verona, Anderlecht and other clubs.

The Argentine has just returned from a broken foot which he sustained during the draw against Napoli a couple of months ago, and will now head out for more consistent senior playing time.

    1. the days when we got players like Pirlo, Seedorf, Simic, Helveg & Ibra from inter is long gone,
this season they will get 2nd ★ with many ex-milan,
some of them maybe not great but still we are their feeder club

      1. Helveg we got from Udinese- who then played at Inter for maybe a season. And Ibra had left Inter already. You missed Ronaldo, Crespo,Balotelli…

Outside of the Turk and Acerbi for 5 games during the banter era, what previous rossonero is currently at Inter? You must be joking on the feeder club dig.

        1. Darmian – our former primavera captain who was widely touted as a top talent but then we just had to go and sign such great full backs as Dídac Vilà, Taye Taiwo, Djamel Mesbah, and anyone, just anyone, who was not a player that our primavera had produced that cost us zero.

Because, remember, we can’t ’afford’ to compete with Saudi money if we rely on free primavera players. We must compete by signing lots and lots and lots and lots of players.

It all comes down to money, and the less money you have the more you waste. Like those people on welfare who go to the bookies.

A quarter of the inter starting 11 that beat us in the semi-finals were our former players, and our former players play for Juve and Roma.

And those players who play for our direct rivals are regularly written off by people as being ‘not good enough’.

          1. S. Inzaghi is a great coach – better than Pioli, and is doing wonders for Acerbi and Darmian and credit to those 3. But those guys are about to retire and to say we should be jealous for feeding them to Inter is a bit much IMO. Also, having a top midfield and a 40 goal a season striker does make it a bit easier to get things right in the back.

          2. Inzaghi is not a great coach (or at least objectively better than Pioli) because Pioli won the Scudetto with what everyone says is an inferior squad.

Besides these decisions are not the fault of the coach. It’s the myriad of directors justifying their existence in modern football clubs.

          3. Stop bashing Inzaghi it just makes you sound very foolish.
At Lazio he won Copa Italia and 2 Supercopa’s while being competitive in the league with an average team.

At Inter he won 2 Copa Italia, 3 supercopa’s and was runner up in Champions league – despite having many of his best players sold.
They are hot favourites to win the league this season and comfortably qualified for last 16 in CL.

He is a good manager (unfortunately)
            So quit all the nonsense

  1. Traore should have just stayed in Parma.after we bought him, no? He would have gotten valuable Serie B playing time already as he was breaking through the first team there. Sending him now back to Serie B pretty much wasted alot of time in his development between time of purchase and now. Assuming here Serie B > Primavera which I think it is.

    1. Not only that, but I read that Palermo has a 10m option to buy with us getting 15% of any resale, so we’re in real danger of losing the player. 10m is a large amount for a Serie B team, but they’re owned by City Group and if they get promoted and he’s done well they should be able to do it. Oh well.

      1. Who cares about the money?

We’re going to waste it anyway.

This is like a gambler getting winnings and spending it on the next bet.

        1. Not just that, but I’d factor in the flow-on effect of not having faith in Traore.

I have different rules for lightning quick wingers. They just need to be able to come on a wreak a little havoc chasing long / through balls. There isn’t a lot that can go wrong structurally in the way that a young CB or CM could get exposed or even the way a young 9 is shattered playing on 2 experienced CBs. It was always obvious Traore was capable of relieving Leao this season.

So Milan may well pat itself on the back for getting 10m for Traore but in reality the net value and impact of selling him is less the money we have already spent on replacements (i.e. Okafor or Chukuweze who have done less than Traore adjusted for playing time), which we didn’t need to spend, and the impact of not having that money to spend on a better/more ready CB than Pellegrino or maybe having the cash to sign Buongiorno. It’s probably costs us 10m in cash being the difference between spending 20m on Chukwueze and selling Traore for 10m (assuming he is sold for that much).

I do not agree with your views on loans generally… even here, the issues isn’t that Traore is being sent on loan, it is that the club has already decided that he is expendable because of the players it has signed (hence the loan includes an option that could be exercised by a City Group funded club that should get promoted)…but this merry-go-round is as expensive and counterproductive as it is plainly stupid to anything who can actually see what is going on. Business for the sake of doing business which has nothing to do with making Milan better or improving players, and everything to do with making parasites money.

          1. Frankly my original post is an insult to gamblers if you look at the billions (yes billions) we spent on transfers in the past decade (with one scudetto to show for it after we signed Kjaer and Ibra on frees!).

I agree with what you’re saying about wingers. Hilariously and ironically the only youth players to be given chances at Milan were a 16 year old, error prone goalkeeper, and some full backs!

We also gave chances to the likes of Cristante and Locatelli when we used to bring them on in the last minute to sure up the midfield!

I remember when Locatelli used to be brought on late in matches and he even did well and scored that volley and cried, and then we sold him and now he plays for Juve who are above us in the table.

And we have Adli….after we sold Tonali…,

            What a mess.

      2. That’s what I read too. Even worse.
It’s a clear indication that they don’t value him as much. Sending him.back after so much time has elapsed is a step backwards imo. So we bought him for 0.6m and want the same club to pay $10m for him from us??? I don’t know if that’s gonna work the way they think it would, City Group and all. That’s still a huge chunk in a small budget. But who knows

    2. He should have just stayed at Parma.

Maybe he should have a word with his agent.

Would you prefer to be a Berardi or some journeyman changing clubs every few months?

  2. They gave them Traore with option for 10 millions. One of our brightest talent who already played and scored for our first team.

Resale and capital gains all day baby! Yippee-ki-yay yanks!

    1. That goal was the kiss of death.

We can’t have our primavera getting too ahead of themselves and scoring goals.

Move. Him. On. Another transfer please.

      (Sarcasm alert)

  3. 1-This isn’t like Cristante and Locatelli who showed they were as good as or better than our starters before being shipped off. Those were obvious mistakes. Given the absence of talent in our midfield at that time, I’m surprised Pessina never got a chance. Seeing all three win the Euro was tough.
2-I’m not too upset about Darmian because we had a lot of good players in defense during his time so it actually was good for his career to leave.
3-It’s hard to judge these decisions. I would have liked both Traore and Pellegrino to stay because this is a season where they could get playing time given we are sitting safely in third, not really in the title race, and may need to rest players for the Europa League. However, sometimes going on loan can be a win for everybody. The truth is we haven’t seen enough of either player to judge.

  4. We seem to be desperate to sign another CB for some reason and yet we send Pellegrino out on loan?
Just a few months ago he was given a chance in 1st team
Bizarre really, why did we sign a 21 yo CB who is not ready to contribute?

A targeted approach to signings is what works, saving money and time, not this haphazard approach by Moncada and co
This current approach is more akin to what feeder clubs do, stockpile young players and turn them over for profit

With the likes of Traore it really gives a negative blow to our youth players and managers, where essentially there is no route to 1st team, they are just used as pawns to trade.
I would not join that kind of setup if I was a talented young player

  5. Shame – Pioli finally bloods him, gets a couple of goals and is now shipped off! Personally I would have liked to see more of him..
