AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has confirmed the club’s intention is to move into a new stadium in San Donato in less than five years, but joked about the difficulties that Italy presents.
Milan have made it clear that their desire is to build their own new home in the San Francesco area of San Donato, which will be a 72,000-seater stadium and will be part of an entertainment complex.
The decision was made to abandon the joint plan with Inter to construct a new stadium next to the current San Siro because of the various political delays that meant the ball was never really able to get rolling.
Speaking outside the Lombardy World Summit 2023 in Milan, Scaroni was asked about the new stadium project and the target date for it to open, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“Construction will begin at the end of 2024, beginning of 2025. We expect the inauguration in 2028 for the season 2028-2029,” he said.
“There are many Italians who know our country, when one makes these predictions in Italy we are on slippery ground… But this is our plan.”
