Now that March has passed we can again rate all of Milan’s players and see the ones that stood out. This month was another in which Pioli has had trouble with injured players as the team got knocked out of the Europa League and will have to focus on Serie A until the end of the season.
With absentees not giving Milan rest, the team has ended their participation in the Europa League and lost ground against Inter with the Rossoneri being six points behind and their rivals having a game in hand.
Milan responded well after being knocked out by Manchester United as they went on to beat Fiorentina just before the international break. The team is now looking better as Ibrahimovic looks fit and so does Bennacer and with no more competitions to focus on, Milan will want to put some pressure on Inter as it is set to be an interesting final part of the season in Italy.
Before that plays out though, let’s see who were the protagonists for Milan in March…
3. Kjaer – Average rating: 6.75
The Dane had some struggled with injuries since the turn of the year and he looked a bit shaky after his recovery in February. In March, however, Kjaer was back to his former self as he was a stable in the back partnering up with Fikayo Tomori.
The two have been brilliant at the back, but the struggles up front for Milan have somewhat overshadowed the good work done at the back. Nevertheless, a good month for Kjaer as fans should be happy to see him at his former best.
2. Kessie – Average rating: 6.92
The Ivorian has been a real powerhouse in the midfield. Whilst almost each of his teammates has had some injury problems this season, Kessie has been fortunate enough to be injury free and he has been outstanding leading the team and taking more responsibilities.
We saw him perform on a very high level in Europe as well and even though Milan were eliminated, the Ivorian was clearly dominant in both encounters against United showing just how good of a player he has become. A good month for Kessie in a rather mixed month for Milan.
1. Tomori – Average rating: 7.00
For the second time in a row, Fikayo Tomori wins our Player of the Month title. The Englishman settled in well as we have mentioned before and got his chance when played over Romagnoli and never looked back. Tomori has partnered up with Kjaer at the back and they seem to play along together with good chemistry.
The Chelsea loanee has been remarkable defensively, showing off his great pace to recover when the situation looked doomed, but he also showed great reading of the play and the ability to actually make those tackle after catching up. His aggressiveness as also been impressive as he has given a hard time to the opposition’s attackers.
Great winter deal for Milan as they should be looking to make the move permanent without hesitation.
